Greg and Joe Marshall

Who are these guys?

Background

Greg Marshall     “As the veteran of this operation, I feel it important to remind my son, Joe, that I have several pairs of shoes older than he…but he reminds me that his shoes are much cooler than mine. So we begin!

“After high school, I worked in the coal yards and on a maintenance crew for an electrical generating station in mid state Illinois. I didn’t start college until the age of 23. I played soccer and served as a student assistant on the men’s basketball team. For the next 19 years, I was a college basketball coach for schools such as Cal Poly SLO and Idaho State as well as a scout for the Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat.

“I successfully transitioned from education into business at the tender age of 45, becoming a commercial real estate broker and ultimately becoming a co-owner of a highly regarded real estate firm in Southern California. I am married to the best woman in the world and we have three nearly grown children. I love to play golf, run, read and watch old movies.

During the summers, I worked for a variety of companies and industries: commercial real estate, financial planning, home mortgages, and a start up online property management company. I also started my own social media management company. This helped me build an impressive resume, which landed me a great job right out of college.  Currently, I work for a national bank as a commercial analyst and I am part of an esteemed two year training program.

“When I’m not working, I am an avid fitness enthusiast. I love to lift weights, do plyometrics, play basketball, and learn new sports and activities. I love to compete, have fun, and get a good workout at the same time.”

Why a Blog

Greg:    ”At first, I was intimidated with the name of our web site.   “The Unlimited Project” is a rather lofty title. But the older I get, the more I realize that I am capable of so much more; you are capable of so much more. I am not talking about dying with the most toys. I am talking about pursuing your dreams, whatever they may be. Whether it is deepening friendships, parenting, travel, fitness, spiritual growth and yes, even making more money, we all have something we want to improve on. And too many times we are afraid of failure to try. Or we just don’t know how. Or we just hadn’t thought about how. Or the one I nearly fell into: ‘I am too old to try.’ Believe me, you are not!

“When my son, Joe, and I began talking about a blog, we wanted to do so to help others and also use it to motivate ourselves to do more with our lives. You will be getting encouragement from the veteran and the rookie! And I get to spend more time with my son, which is always a great thing for a dad!”

Joe:     “One of my favorite quotes comes from a pretty average movie, You, Me, and Dupree. In the movie, the character Dupree is in a job interview and says that he absolutely insists on enjoying life. This quote has stuck with me over the years, and I absolutely insist on enjoying life. Life is too much fun, and there is so much awesome stuff to be done and explored. I want to help others see what is possible and not to settle for a conventional life.

“As I begin my professional life, I want to share my journey with you. I want to tell you what works for me, what doesn’t, and why not.  I want to help you see what is possible and most importantly, help you realize that you don’t have to accept life as it is handed to you. Each person has the opportunity to make of life what they want.”
